Midas speakers to address a variety of issues

Speakers at the MIDAS Texan jewelry show, slated for August 27-29 at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center, will address the topics of business management, public relations, the PATRIOT act, and software.

Andrea Hill, CEO of Albuquerque, N.M.-based The Bell Group, will present “10 Most Important Management Concepts,” basic principles necessary to run a successful organization. Understanding these principles will help outperform competitors, produce higher quality products, better on-time delivery, and better margins.

Jeff Crilley, an Emmy Award-winning TV reporter will discuss “How to Finesse the Press….Getting Positive News Coverage.” He will explain how to come up with new ideas, news releases, talking with sound-bites, best times/worst times for coverage, and combating negative news so jewelers can position themselves as expert in the field.

Ulla Wolf, associate general counsel for the Jewelers Vigilance Committee will discuss “Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Programs for the Jewelry Industry,” explaining what is required for jewelers to meet the January 1, 2006, deadline to comply with the USA Patriot Act. The act mandates jewelry businesses to institute anti-money laundering programs to detect and prevent exploitation by those with criminal intent. These rules call for jewelry industry dealers with purchases over $50,000 and sales over $50,000 of jewels, stones or precious metals a year to complete with federal regulations guarding against anti-money laundering schemes.

Will Woods, an account executive with Microsoft Business Solutions will discuss the firm’s retail management systems and partnership programs. For more information visit www.midastexan.com or call 972-660-3831
