Michelle Obama Rocks the DNC in Kimberly McDonald Earrings

Almost immediately after Michelle Obama finished her speech at the Sept. 4 Democratic National Convention, inquiring minds wanted to know—what was she wearing? The answer: A custom Tracy Reese dress; $245 Everly suede J. Crew pumps in rhubarb, which, at press time, were still available online; and moonstone and diamond drop earrings by Kimberly McDonald (kimberlymcdonald.com; price on request).

The first lady is famed for her eclectic jewelry choices, from Alexis Bittar’s Lucite brooches to Loree Rodkin’s edgy diamonds to Jordan Alexander’s pearls. And sharp-eyed fashionphiles will remember this isn’t the first time she’s donned McDonald’s designs; Mrs. O wore multiple geode and diamond pieces last summer at an event for her Joining Forces initiative in Hollywood.

“Mrs. Obama’s support of American designers is something to applaud,” says McDonald. “People are drawn to her from both the political and fashion worlds because she embodies a genuineness, which is rare.”

We’re sure we’re not the only ones eagerly awaiting her next accessory choice.
