Metal With a Twist, a Fold, or a Different Bent

Metal, completely unadorned, is proving its limitless potential for jewelry designs this season. The new twist is twists—twists, folds, and bends, to be precise, resulting in jewelry of a different bent.

The August 2012 issue of InStyle presents a montage of photos of celebrities wearing clean-lined ensembles accented with “golden cuffs crafted with such intricacy and drama that it’s hard to tell if they were discovered in King Tut’s tomb or stolen from Wonder Woman.” Ellen Pompeo wears a Lanvin cuff; Heidi Klum wears a Lorraine Schwartz cuff; Eva Green wears Tom Ford cuffs; and Aubrey Plaza wears a cuff from Isharya.

A gold-plated brass ring with folded edges from Dominic Jones is featured in the August 2012 issue of Elle along with some of the fall’s scarf print patterns and a bag studded with faux jeweled buttons by Jason Wu. The model to the right wears a vintage flower brooch from Beladora.

A twisted gold tone bracelet from Wanderlust + Co. is pictured with the skirt ensemble at left in the August 2012 issue of InStyle. The pants ensemble to the right is pictured with a pair of twisted silver plate bangles from Low Luv x Eric Wasson.

Actress Leighton Meester wears a complex bangle from Paloma Picasso for Tiffany & Co. in the July 2012 issue of Lucky. She also wears diamond rings from Effy and Natacha Langerman. Her dress is from BCBG MAX AZRIA and her shoes are by Valentino Garavani.

A ring of twisted silvertone metal from Guy & Eva is featured in the July 2012 issue of Glamour. Actress Vanessa Hudgens’ jewelry is not identified.

The July 2012 issue of Marie Claire features a multi-finger twisted snake ring from Elise Dray at Alchemist, and a pendant with folded metal detail from Tous in a photo montage accompanying a brief fashion profile of actress Chloe Moretz. The wristwatch pictured  is a Citizen Eco-Drive.

This fashion styling from the July 2012 issue of Marie Claire features a variety of shaped metal rings from Vhernier, Gucci, and Lynn Ban, plus a metal choker from Tom Ford.

Vintage drop earrings featuring an extended spiral of metal around a central drop from House of Lavande are pictured in the July 2012 issue of Elle.

Olympic athlete Maya Moore is pictured in the July 2012 issue of Elle wearing a twisted design collar necklace and spiral earrings, all from Patricia von Musulin.

A simple yet complex necklace from Giuseppe Zanotti Design is featured in the June–July 2012 issue of Harper’s Bazaar.

Twists and folds of gold are featured in the June/July 2012 issue of Harper’s Bazaar. Pictured are a cuff with twisted detail from David Yurman; a necklace of joined segments of bend goldtone metal from Giles & Brother; and folded design earrings from Anita Ko, along with a rectangular top ring from Roberto Coin and unusual drop earrings suspended from bolts by Eddie Borgo.

A current ad for Bebe pictures singer Jordin Sparks wearing an elaborate golden metal bracelet.

A current ad for Adriano Goldschmied jeans pictures a model wearing a double twisted metal bracelet.

A recent ad for a pendant by Paloma Picasso for Tiffany & Co. features spirals of gold.

In the June 2012 issue of Glamour, singer Carrie Underwood is pictured wearing a Cartier bracelet of multiple loops of gold. Her rings are her own.

A choker of bent metal from Lanvin is featured in the June 2012 issue of Marie Claire. This style of wide metal chokers has been sizzling for almost a year now—I discussed the look of wide rigid metal collars in my Sept. 22, 2011, blog post. This is a trend still unfolding.
