Mesmerized by the Jewelry Trade’s Tributes to Paris and Beirut

I struggled for hours over what to say in this week’s blog. In light of the terrible events in Paris and Beirut, jewelry is the last thing on my mind. I know I’m not the only one consumed by the tragedy. From SNL’s touching straight opening honoring the victims of the attacks to the myriad cities around the globe whose monuments have been lit up in red, blue, and white to show solidarité with the people of the French capital, the world is, indeed, united in its stance against terrorism.

Given that the City of Light is the industry’s spiritual home, the jewelry trade, like fashion, has all the more reason to mourn. As I devoured stories about the attacks over the weekend on Twitter, Facebook, and various news sites, I also found myself drawn to Instagram, where many jewelers expressed their support for the people of Paris and Beirut.
