Meijer Announces New President, Co-CEO

Meijer, the 199-store Midwest chain that sells jewelry in its discount supercenters, has appointed J.K. Symancyk as its new president.

Prior to his appointment, he served as chief operating officer.

In addition, Mark Murray has been appointed co-CEO with Hank Meijer. Murray will also serve as vice chairman of the Meijer board of directors.

As COO, Symancyk supervised retail operations, supply chain, manufacturing, merchandising, and marketing. As president, he will oversee all day-to-day business of the company. Symancyk will begin his new position on Feb. 3.

Symancyk joined the Grand Rapids, Mich.–based chain in 2006 as vice president of perishables. He became executive vice president of merchandising and marketing in 2007 and accepted the role of chief operating officer in 2012.
