Maurice Shire, Former AGTA President, 86



Maurice Shire, former president of the American Gem Trade Association, passed away this past Saturday.

Shire was a founding father of the AGTA and served for many years on the board of directors and as president from 1987 to 1988. Shire was a tireless advocate of ethics and professionalism, the group said, and displayed unbridled passion for his gemstones, his friends, and his family.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Susan, children Monique, Franklin, Robert and his wife Nancy, grandchildren Danielle, Rachael, Ilana and Evan.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the following: Bramson ORT, 69-30 Austin Street, Forest Hills, NY 11375 Attn: Dr. Ephraim Buhks, Director. Contributions can also be made to Sarah Neuman Nursing Home, 845 Palmer Avenue, Mamaroneck, NY 10543.
