Aloha Is Love With Maui Divers’ Nalu Hearts

Share

Not surprisingly, we’re currently seeing and will continue to encounter plenty of heart jewelry in advance of this Valentine’s Day. As the obvious icon of the holiday, it’s bound to be abundant everywhere you shop—not just jewelry stores—so it has to be really special to gain someone’s attention.

With so many styles to choose from, what’s a customer to do? Perhaps they’ll select the heart with their birthstone. Or one that gives back to a charitable cause. Maybe it’s a piece decorated in an on-trend way, like with enamel.

I like this option from the Honolulu-based brand jeweler Maui Divers, because it points to a very special place for my family—Hawaii. Given the number of people who return to the island year after year, surely I’m not the only one who feels this way.

Named the Nalu Heart collection—nalu meaning “wave”—this line in gorgeous gold sees two layers of ocean waves coming together to form the shape of a heart. It’s a beautiful representation of what love can be—two waves crashing into each other to form the perfect scene.

The line, which has recently been expanded with the pieces pictured here, is an ocean away from other heart jewels offered up for Valentine’s Day in terms of style, but it’s also a fitting self-purchase for someone who loves the surf, any time of year.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, however, is a new campaign for Maui Divers, #alohaislove.

Many know aloha to mean “hello” and “goodbye” in Hawaiian, but the word represents much more than a simple greeting: In Hawaii, aloha is a way of life. To live aloha is to live a life with love and compassion for others, to have an open heart, to practice kindness. Look it up, and no two definitions of aloha is exactly the same, but there’s a common sentiment that feels appropriately summed up by saying, to live aloha is to leave the world a better place.

“It is how we treat each other, how we care for one another, and how we live together as one,” reads Maui Divers’ blog. “Aloha means putting words into action through harmony, positivity, kindness, empathy, and respect for each other. Aloha truly is a foundation of love.”

That’s exhibited in the new campaign from the brand, set to run throughout its channels, including local radio and TV. You can watch the commercial here—it’s a short ad, displaying the jewels nicely with a soothing voice-over and music. “You are my aloha, you are my love,” the ad begins. “My ‘ohana, my best friend. You show me aloha is love.”

I’ll take that romantic jewelry commercial with a Hawaiian twist any day, please and thank you.
