Maui Divers Head Retiring

Bob Taylor, longtime head of Maui Divers Jewelry, the Honolulu-based 56-store chain, announced he will retire at the end of 2011 after 35 years with the company.

Mary Beth Brenner, the current executive vice president, will succeed Taylor as president and CEO. Taylor will continue to serve as a company director and stockholder.

Taylor tells JCK he is retiring because “it’s just time. I’ve been with the company 35 years and there are other things I want to do with my life: family things, travelling.”

Taylor first became president in 1993 and CEO in 1999. He is credited with overseeing the company’s expansion from five to 56 stores. Today, Maui Divers is considered Hawaii’s largest jewelry manufacturer and retailer.

“I feel good that business has turned around for us,” Taylor says. “Our sales are up 15 percent for the year. I have a really top-notch person to take my place. And I’m just ready to smell the roses.”
