Marriage Material

Thanks to the Supreme Court’s historic decision in June granting same-sex couples the right to marry, marriage has never been more popular—or more newsworthy—than it is today.

That’s sweet news for jewelers, whose businesses are set to grow, provided they know how to cater to their matrimony-minded clientele. That’s where our fourth annual bridal supplement comes in. For starters, check out “Then Comes Marriage” to check out the highlights of The Knot’s 2015 Engagement & Jewelry Study, including fresh insights into how couples research jewelers, how much grooms spend on rings, and what types of stones brides rank as their favorites.

The rest of the supplement unfolds as a mini-guide to the bridal market today. In “Wedding Sells,” we speak to retailers about their most memorable engagement and wedding jewelry sales. In “Ring Fever” we offer inspiration of another kind, with a bevy of rings—from men’s bands to alternative engagement styles—designed to resonate with millennial buyers.

Speaking of alternative, it became clear while researching this supplement that we may soon want to retire the word bridal from the jewelry lexicon, in deference to the hard-fought notion that a beautiful wedding—and a happy marriage—no longer has to include a bride. Hooray for progress, and the progressive jewelers who embrace it!
