Marine Corps Sergeant Wins Perfect Proposal Contest

Leo Hamel Fine Jewelers has selected Paul McQuigg, a gunnery sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, as the winner of its “Perfect Proposal” contest.

His entry was deemed the most compelling love story among 80 submissions. McQuigg was injured during combat operations in Iraq six years ago and his girlfriend, Holly Jackson, has stood by his side.

McQuigg proposed to Jackson with a $10,000 1.2 ct. Hearts On Fire diamond engagement ring awarded to him by Leo Hamel.

“Holly loves and accepts me for who I am, even with my injuries and everything that comes along with them,” McQuigg said in a statement. “We’ve been together for over three years and my son, Sebastian, loves her and calls her Mommy.”
