Meet Mantra, the New Collection by Zoë Chicco

Though self-care has always been (or should have always been) an important life practice, it’s become somewhat of a trend—or lifestyle change—as of late. From the absurd (in a good way) amount of niche exercise studios opening in any given city neighborhood to workout gear as a fashion statement, taking care is big business. And that not only goes for physical health, but also mental health. Apps like Headspace, a daily meditation guide, are quickly becoming popular, and websites and blogs tout self-care tips on the regular. Where face masks and bubble baths (that’s the cliché version—self-care is whatever makes you feel good) may have once been considered a luxury, they’re now more of a necessity on the path to a happier existence.

This concept of self-care and self-love is so important in a busy, high-stress world, where achieving your goals can create plenty of pressure and stress. We’re now more open about the topics of mental and physical health, though we still have a way to go.

While any good therapist or self-care guru will arm you with a toolkit for tackling moments of stress, there’s one thing that is a must-have: a mantra.

Originally from Hinduism or Buddhism, a mantra meant a word or sound repeated to enhance or bring on meditation. That definition, though, has expanded to a wider audience to mean a statement or slogan frequently repeated. It’s what we say to ourselves in times of crisis (or maybe even good times, what the heck!) to power through. It aids to strengthen and inspire and serves as a reminder that we can do this, and things will be all right.

If you don’t currently have a mantra, I highly recommend adopting one. I’ve found it to be incredibly helpful during times when my mind feels like it could use a little tune-up (and as a new mom, stress is comically abundant).

Need a little help figuring out your mantra? Perhaps Zoë Chicco can help. The designer that specializes in super-wearable, super-cool everyday jewels, is releasing a new collection appropriately called Mantra.

Manufactured in-house at Chicco’s new 8,000-square-foot studio in downtown Los Angeles, the collection is composed of 14k gold necklaces and bracelets featuring—you guessed it—mantras. There are nine different affirmations to choose from, and two of them—”Work hard, stay humble, be kind” and “Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change”—are used by Chicco herself.
