Using social media to do a good deed
An Australian man is giving away a diamond ring to a deserving couple via the social media site Reddit.
The man, identified only by the username what_choice, said that he initially gave the ring to his ex-fiancée, who returned it when they broke up.
“I have decided to give away my old engagement ring,” he wrote in the post. “I have only heard horror stories of people trying to sell their rings and being insulted with sub-par offers from pawn shops, jewellers etc. and thought I would attempt to pass it on to a deserving couple.”
The ring features a diamond-encrusted band with a round-cut diamond in a halo setting.
At press time, six people had posted stories publicly on the Reddit page, though others may have sent him stories privately. In the comments of the post, he said he would choose a winner within the next few days. Entries are limited to those in the Sydney area, as he wants to deliver the ring in person.
