An earring worn by Madonna in the film Desperately Seeking Susan sold for $34,375 at the Julien’s Auctions Icons of Rock ’n’ Roll sale in Beverly Hills, Calif., Nov. 7–8.

The earring was handmade by costume designer Santo Loquasto. The earring “has a hand-painted, molded plastic female pharaoh with metallic leather backing, imitation turquoise, and stone beads.” The earring, which plays a prominent role in the film, was estimated at $7,000 to $10,000.

The auction also featured a 14k gold ring once owned by Elvis Presley, which sold for $57,600, and a pair of vintage clip-on earrings with simulated diamonds that Madonna wore in the film Evita, which sold for $8,320.
