MacDaddy’s Earns Golden Apple Award for Marketing its Million-Dollar Lur

MacDaddy’s, a manufacturer of precious metal and gemstone fishing lures and flies, has won the Golden Apple Award for Innovation in Marketing at the JA New York Jewelry Show, held at the Jacob K. Javits Center. The Arroyo Grande, Calif.-company said its use of the world’s only Million-Dollar Lur as the focus in marketing its product line was a major factor in earning MacDaddy’s the coveted award.

The national and international media coverage accorded MacDaddy’s since launching its lure in July, 2006 has been overwhelming, according to Teri Conrad, co-founder and president of the company. 

“Upscale publications like JCK, Forbes Life, Stratos, and Cowboys & Indians magazines have featured either our Diamond Eye jeweled fly or Million-Dollar Lure in their 2006 Holiday Gift sections,” Conrad said. “There’s a lot of competition for those spots in such high-visibility publications.”

MacDaddy’s in 2006 also received national and international broadcast news coverage on affiliates of NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX, as well as the ESPN and CNN networks, and Mexico’s Televisa channel. The Million-Dollar Lure will be featured during the spring of 2007 in episodes on The Outdoor Channel, Rocky Mountain Television, and ESPN’s Wanna Go Fishing show.

Another large part of MacDaddy’s marketing efforts supports fundraising organizations. Donating as much as 5 percent of the proceeds from the potential sale of The Million-Dollar Lure with several charitable organizations during 2006. 

“We’re always looking for opportunities to help charitable causes,” Conrad said. “We hope that our award in New York will not only attract potential buyers, but also major charitable organizations which may be interested in using the Million-Dollar Lure for their fundraising efforts.”

The Million-Dollar Lure, designed by MacDaddy’s co-founder Mac McBurney, is crafted in 3 pounds of 14 and 18k gold and platinum, and encrusted with 100 cts. of diamonds and rubies (4,753 stones in all). The lure was manufactured by Uneek, Fine Jewelry Collections.
