Visitors are invited to dive for diamonds off the coast of South Africa
The Ellerman House, a luxury hotel in Cape Town, South Africa, is offering guests an opportunity to go on a safari not to look for exotic animals on the plains, but for diamonds in the ocean.
The hotel has partnered with Benguela Diamonds, which leads the tours that take place off the west coast of South Africa. Guests dive with dive masters to search for diamonds in sediment and are invited have a piece of jewelry designed and created with their findings.
Wynand Hendrikse, founder of Benguela Diamonds, also owns Aphrodite Diamonds, a diamond and jewelry design studio in Stellenbosch, South Africa. He boasts that it will take guests only three working days to get the diamond cut and polished and a piece of jewelry created and certified.
Travel Weekly reports that the daylong excursion, including private flights and gourmet meals, costs $16,000, not including the cost of the diamonds or jewelry.
