A number of large diamonds were also discovered
Lucapa Diamond Co., the Australian diamond producer, has announced the discovery of several fancy colored diamonds from its Lulo diamond mine in Angola.
The company also found eight special diamonds, which are stones weighing more than 10.8 cts. (a selection of the recovered diamonds is pictured, right).
One of the pinks is a .2 ct. intense fancy pink. The discoveries were made from the trial mining of a new area at the Lulo mine called E46.
“These pink recoveries, together with the 4 ct. pink recovered in the original exploration bulk sampling program, suggest the E46 diamond population should include fancy colored diamonds as well as large, high-quality gems,” said the company in at statement.
A 404.2 ct. diamond was found at the mine in February, breaking the record of the 133.4 ct. diamond was found at the Lulo mine in January.
