Actress Ellen Barkin’s jewelry from her failed marriage netted $20.3 million at auction Tuesday.
Barkin, best known for her roles in the films, “The Big Easy” and “Sea of Love,” unloaded 103 pieces of her personal jewelry at Christie’s in New York. Many of the pieces were gifts from her ex-husband Revlon billionaire Ron Perelman, including her wedding ring. The ring, a wide band set with four rows of bell-cut diamonds topped in 18k gold, was sold for $130,000, surpassing a presale estimate of $50,000.
However, the item that received the highest price for the night was a 22.76-ct. diamond ring created by JAR–one of several items by the 20th century American designer on the block. It was purchased by a private American collector for $1.8 million.
Christie’s said the $20.3 million total makes Barkin’s collection the highest single-owner jewelry sale of the past 15 years in the U.S. and also places it among the top four ever worldwide.
Barkin and Perelman married in 2000 and divorced six years later. The billionaire chairman of Revlon Inc. reportedly has a net worth of more than $6 billion.
