Louis Fortunoff, a former executive of his family’s storied retail chain, died of cancer on Oct. 20, at age 47, according to an obituary in Newsday.
Fortunoff had formerly served as the executive vice president of the Fortunoff company, as well as a board member of the New York State Jewelers Association. Recently, he headed Louis Fortunoff Development.
The family business, which specialized in jewelry and home furnishings, was sold to a private equity company in 2004. It was liquidated five years later. Family members have since resurrected the name and brand.
