Longtime Ohio Jeweler Fred Weber Retires

Fred Weber, founder of Weber Jewelers in Dayton, Ohio, is retiring after nearly 60 years in the jewelry business.

The store, now owned by his daughter Stephanie Weber, hosted a champagne reception on Jan. 8 that included a special commendation from the American Gem Society and the city of Dayton. Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley proclaimed it Fred Weber Day.

The proclamation refers to Weber as “an involved and outstanding member of the Greater Dayton community for 58 years, serving as businessman, an elected official, a board member, and perhaps most importantly, a friend to those in all walks of life.”

Weber started in the jewelry business in 1955 after moving to Dayton and working for his wife Loretta’s father’s jewelry store, Mayor’s Jewelers. Weber opened Weber Jewelers in the early 1970s. In 2012, Weber won the Robert M. Shipley Award for being active in his local community, serving as a city commissioner for Dayton, heading the board of Wright State University, and chairing a local hospital system for 18 years.
