Long Sparkly Earrings for Day & Evening

There’s something lighthearted about a beautiful spring day, and just in time to enjoy the longer hours of daylight and gentle breezes, the fashion world is embracing lovely long earrings that dazzle in the sunlight and sparkle with every movement. Earring styles that add polish to evening ensembles over the holiday season are enjoying a stay on fashion’s stage into the spring.

Here is InStyle magazine’s take on this trend, from the May 2012 issue of the magazine: “Vibrant stone sparklers are the latest big jewelry trend.… Put on a pair and expect major outfit fireworks, as even your standby tank top becomes spectacular.” The earrings pictured are: Erickson Beamon + Bauble Bar earrings of glass, crystal and gold plate Elizabeth Cole earrings of Swarovski crystals, brass and gold plate; Juliet and Co. glass and resin earrings; Mawi earrings of Swarovski crystals, faux pearls, and gold plate; and Gerard Yosca earrings of hand-cut glass, Swarovski crystals, and vintage brass plate.

The April 2012 issue of Glamour advises its readers: “If you buy just one pair of earrings this spring…make them long and sparkly, like these babies.” The earrings pictured are from Kira Kira. Actresses Blake Lively and Kate Beckinsale are shown “working the look.”

The April 2012 issue of O, the Oprah Magazine highlights “the modern chandelier”: “The latest incarnation of the classic earring is structured and geometric. Wear them during the day—they’re not just for evening anymore.” The earrings pictured are from Emitations.com, Sequin-NYC.com, and AudenDesign.com. The magazine adds this tip: “Skip a necklace with these earrings to avoid the ‘crown jewel’ look.”

Rhapsodizing about the style, the April 2012 issue of Allure emphasizes the visual effect: “A twinkle, a glimmer, a bit of sparkle: Long drop earrings neatly draw attention to the face.”The magazine pictures crystal and resin earrings from Prada; linear Swarovski crystal and onyx earrings from Dries Van Noten; turquoise and diamante earrings from Robert Sorrell for House of Lavande; pink crystal earrings from Oscar de la Renta; rose-gold-plated brass, crystal and faux pearl earrings from Mawi; and glass crystal and neon-hued glass stone earrings from Ann Taylor.

In the March 2012 issue of Harper’s Bazaar, the editors highlight dangly earrings with the comment: “Shelve those trusty diamond studs in favor of these impossibly sweet but stylishly off-kilter costume drops.” The earrings pictured are from Dannijo and Erickson Beamon; the runway shot is from Prada. In the story just above the piece on earrings, Bazaar looks to style setter Shala Monroque for reference in touting the latest iterations of the statement necklace. The necklace shown is from Alexis Bittar.

Not all the earrings pictured are costume jewelry. On the cover of the April 2012 issue of InStyle, actress Sofia Vergara is pictured in a color block dress from Narciso Rodriguez and a suite of colorful gemstone earrings and ring from Martin Katz.

Actress Salma Hayek is profiled in the May 2012 issue of Lucky. Here she wears a dress from Azzedine Alaia with quartz, amethyst, diamond, and 14k rose gold earrings from Dana Rebecca Designs. Her bracelet of carved mammoth and diamond is from Bochic; the rings are her own.

The February 2012 issue of Lucky profiles French actress Nora Arnezeder, picturing her above in crystal bow earrings from Chloe + Isabel accessorizing a smoked muslin dress from Carven. Lucky comments: “A sweetheart neckline instantly evokes Old Hollywood glamour—especially when paired with showstopper earrings.”

The sunglasses that appear in this current ad for Valentino along with long sparkly earrings emphasizes that the earrings are not only for evening.

A current ad for Guess pictures the model in a print racer-style top worn with large white dangly earrings and a metal collar.

To be sure, long sparkly earrings are a classic during evening hours. In the May 2012 issue of InStyle, Christina Ricci is pictured in “Bulgari’s jagged fall of white gold and diamonds” that “radiates cheeky elegance” worn with a Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci dress that boasts a bronze portrait collar.

While long sparkly earrings studded with white diamonds are a bit much during daylight hours, this season, long dangly earrings set with brightly hued gems are of the moment for both day and evening.
