Live From Baselworld: Meissen Debuts Watches, Takes Aim at U.S. Market

Longtime German porcelain manufacturer Meissen debuted a fine jewelry collection at Baselworld 2011, but added some über-feminine watches to its 2012 mix. Like some of the jewelry, made in 18k gold with kogolong and diamonds or porcelain and quartz, the watches feature hand-painted vintage-inspired designs—think flowers—from the firm’s 272-year-old history. Porcelain watch faces are set under colorless quartz, and complementary colored alligator leather watch straps and 0.52 ct. t.w. diamond-accented bezels complete models which retail for €14,500 each. Seven different SKUs are currently available, as are limited editions and custom dials. The firm has no U.S. presence at this time.
