The Baselworld fair is open for business, and snake motifs are, well, trendy (to put it lightly). With hundreds of exhibitors showing serpents in some form or another in their booths, there are an endless number of interpretations. I’ve chosen to highlight some of my favorites.
The Valenza, Italy-based design firm Verdi showed soft serpent silhouettes—”interpretations of snakes,” says designer Giovanna Protti—this week at Baselworld. Company principle Marco Verdi joked that they were possibly “sleeping snakes because they have no eyes.” By the third day of the show, no American buyers had come around to see them, though Verdi is confident that other attendees would enjoy them. “Snakes are very popular in Russia and in South America,” he says. Though not all buyers are fans. “The Middle East doesn’t like the animals,” he says.
