The company has introduced a four-hour online course to teach concept sketching to anyone in the jewelry trade
Designer and educator Robert Ackerman has created a course to teach jewelers concept sketching.
Ackerman, president and cofounder of Les Ateliers, was educated as a professional jewelry artist and designer in Switzerland, and he has taught design for 25 years, including courses at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles and the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, Calif.
Jewelry Design & Sketching, an introduction to concept sketching for jewelers, was created in response to two questions Ackerman heard again and again: “I need to learn how to sketch jewelry. It’s not the beautiful paintings or CAD modeling I’m looking for—that’s too time-consuming and customers will walk away.” And “I’m not talented and uncomfortable drawing freehand, and there’s no way I can take two months off from work. What can you suggest?”
“Today, there’s more emphasis than ever to provide a quick and representative visual before continuing downstream, digital or otherwise,” said Ackerman in a statement.
The course is made up of 11 lecture videos that total four hours. The introductory price is $299 for regular enrollment and $199 for students and faculty.
