Pop diva Lady Gaga was spotted at the YouTube Music Awards on Nov. 3 rocking some seriously scary dentures—that are actually a bracelet. Dubbed a “dental cuff,” the piece was conceived by 25-year-old jewelry designer Danielle Hills.
According to New York magazine’s The Cut, Lady Gaga’s design team contacted Hills back in 2010, when the young designer was still a senior at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn studying fine-art jewelry and metals. Hills was shocked to learn that the eccentric artist wanted to use one of her rings for a video shoot.
Although the ring never ended up making the cut for Gaga’s video, the event inspired Hills to start her own jewelry line after graduation, Gilding Primal Instinct. Hills’ entire collection was carried in Nicola Formichetti’s pop-up store in New York just a year after its launch.
Hills now runs a design studio in Manhattan for her Gilding Primal Instinct line, selling her jewelry online and in boutiques in both New York and California.
