Kate Middleton has been back in public view for over a year now, and a pattern has emerged in how she dresses for it. Her jewelry is not necessarily the loudest in the room, nor the most expensive, but it usually means something—a stone with symbolic resonance, a piece made by her daughter, a designer focused on recycled-silver sourcing. That style has been on clear display in the Princess of Wales’ recent photos and public appearances.
On June 28, Catherine completed the National Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the highest peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales within 24 hours, as a fundraiser for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, the hospital where the princess was treated in 2024. Pictures of Kate at the finish line with her children show a woven turquoise friendship bracelet on her left wrist (along with her sapphire engagement ring on the same hand). Princess Charlotte, who’s embracing her mother in one of those photos, is known to make such bracelets for family members. If this one came from the 11-year-old, Kate had carried her daughter’s creation to the summit of Snowdon—Wales’ tallest mountain, and the last peak climbed in the challenge.
At Wimbledon later that week, Kate wore moonstone and lapis lazuli drop earrings (pictured at top)—and they sold out almost immediately afterward. She’d previously donned the pair, from British brand Carousel Jewels, to an Easter service in 2023. The earrings retail for around $170, and Catherine wore them with a Gabriela Hearst suit and an H&M top, reinforcing a high-low approach she’s been deploying more deliberately since her return to public life.
Royal observers noted that this year Kate skipped the green and purple bow brooch she had worn at nearly every Wimbledon appearance since becoming patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in 2016. No explanation for the brooch’s absence was given, but this Wimbledon appearance was more informal than previous years’: the princess spent time greeting fans in the queue and scanning tickets rather than carrying out ceremonial duties.
A few days later, on a visit to Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Catherine’s jewelry was again minimal: pearl drop earrings and a simple green cord bracelet (and, of course, the sapphire engagement ring).
Three appearances, three different registers, all considered.
