The Jewelers Vigilance Committee released its newest publication designed to answer many of the legal questions that the JVC receives on a regular basis, Cecilia L. Gardner, told members of the press Monday at the JA New York Show.
The Retailer’s Legal Handbook: The JVC’s Guide for the Retail Jewelry Store Owner deals with a variety of issues that retailers face on a regular basis, Gardner said.
“This book has information about the kind of things that retailers call us about. It addresses a wide range of legal issues that retailers face when running a store,” she said. “Many retailers need a reference book for everyday issues. The JVC is available to answer questions but at times when a quick reference is needed, this book serves the purpose.”
Topics the book addresses are:
* Store Policies, (sales receipts and modifying designer product);
* Conducting business, (including copyright law, Internet regulations, appraisals, and advertising);
* Legal requirements in regards to hiring and firing; and
* Various resources for the retail jeweler.
Gardner told JCK that the book was developed primarily in-house with the help of two outside attorneys who specialize in copyright and employment law.
The book is $9.95 for JVC members and $29.95 for non-members. The price includes shipping. To order the book call JVC at 212-997-2002.
