Last week when I called Jack Solow, the jeweler who created the engagement ring Justin Bieber recently gave Hailey Baldwin, he shared that he’s “known Justin for many years,” adding that he’s “even produced shows for him in Asia.”

The third-generation NYC jeweler and owner of Solow & Co. further noted, “At this point, we have a really nice relationship and I enjoy working with him.”

But Solow demurred when I asked for details on the ring, explaining, “I don’t want to share too much about the ring—at least until the bride does.”

Roughly 24 hours later he definitely spilled the beans before the bride did—in an interview with E!. And now we have some juicy details on the diamond ring.

The 18k yellow gold bauble boasts a large, oval-shape diamond center stone that’s between 6 and 10 cts., with a diamond-set band. (TMZ reports that it’s valued at around $500,000, but in a Newsweek article jewelry experts believe it’s worth maybe half that.)

Solow told E! that the ring took a few weeks to craft and that when Bieber saw the center stone, he told him that he saw Hailey’s face in the diamond. Which is exactly what you’d expect Justin Bieber to say when staring into a massive diamond.

Solow told E! that Beiber had a big hand in the design, explaining, “He had certain design elements that he wanted and he had certain expectations.”

Chief among those expectations was a focus on the diamond in the design. “I think he knew very well what Hailey wanted in a ring,” Solow said, “but he wanted it very much to be about a very special diamond. He left it in my hands to try and select the most beautiful diamond.”

Bieber, 24, proposed to Baldwin, 21, while the pair were vacationing at Baker’s Bay on Great Guana Cay in the Bahamas—and the two made their engagement Instagram-official a few days later.
