Jewelers’ Security Alliance has issued a “Burglary Alert” for Manhattan based on recent break-ins.
On April 29, JSA says burglars climbed a fire escape in the rear of a building in the West 20s and forced a door on a high floor. They used a grinding wheel to open the side of a TRTL-30 safe and removed jewelry merchandise. The burglars cut the phone lines for the building at 2:00 a.m.
A day earlier, an alarm company responded to a signal at a jewelry manufacturer in the West 30s at 11:50 p.m. and discovered a 12-inch hole in a Class 2 vault. The burglars were pictured on surveillance video but were masked. The burglars may have taken some product which was left out, but did not enter the vault.
