We don’t need to be talking about this month’s birthstone to highlight peridot. Its very recognizable signature hue—radiating between bright chartreuse and olive, depending on the variation or the light—is still floating at the top of summer’s hot list.
We left brat summer in 2024, but designers and jewelry brands are still feeling green. Now, they’re leaning more toward pistachio hues that can be found in gems like green amethyst and sapphire but also in some versions of peridot. From our Karen Dybis, whose words I always happily eat up: “Look, they tried to push butter yellow on everyone this year as well, so let’s take the W and go with pistachio, which is much easier to wear and has a chance of at least matching the matcha everyone is carrying.”
And there’s something to that: If sunny butter yellow wasn’t one’s thing, a jubilant green might be. After all, whimsy is reigning in fine jewelry, and the juicy hue of peridot is most certainly whimsical.
Sure, peridot is August’s birthstone. But outside of that, for consumers seeking joy (who isn’t?), the slightly unconventional presence of peridot satiates the craving for some good, good energy. These are some of the latest peridot jewels.
