Johnson named director of GIA’s London Branch

The Gemological Institute of America has named Edward Johnson, G.G., to the newly created position of director of GIA’s London Branch. The appointment became effective July 22.

Prior to joining GIA, Johnson served as gemology instructor at GIA Hong Kong for three years. In addition, Johnson was the president of the Hong Kong Chapter of the GIA Alumni Association and the publication director of The Gemological Association of Hong Kong. He also owned an independent jewelry appraisal company and worked as a consultant gemologist at the Hong Kong Jade and Stone Laboratory. Before earning his graduate gemologist diploma from GIA in 1996, he was an editor for a jewelry trade publication.

The British-born Johnson said he is excited about his new position and returning home. “After many years working in Asia and seeing how much GIA works for the jewelry industry there, I am proud to have the opportunity to guide GIA into a bright future in the United Kingdom and Europe.”
