Veteran journalist is going back to his “first love,” writing and reporting

On March 1, after 16 years, Joe Thompson (pictured, right) will step down as editor-in-chief of WatchTime.

He will remain with the publication as a part-time reporter and writer. He said in a statement: “I am going back to my first job and first love—writing and reporting.”

Thompson has covered the industry for 38 years, starting at JCK. In January, Jewelers of America honored him with a GEM Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Roger Ruegger, a writer and creative director with 15 years in the watch industry who has contributed to WatchTime for the past two years, is the publication’s new editor-in-chief. He will split his time between Switzerland and the United States.
