JIC to Honor Ralph Destino for Lifetime Achievement at GEM Awards

The Jewelry Information Center announced that the 10th Annual GEM Awards on Jan. 6, 2012 will present the architect and creator of the GEM Awards ceremony, Ralph Destino, with a GEM Award for lifetime achievement.

“The GEM Award for lifetime achievement not only celebrates his contribution to 10 years of GEM Awards excellence but also honors his significant body of work within the fine jewelry and watch industry,” said Helena Krodel, JA director of media and special events, in a statement.

Destino served on JA’s board of directors from 1997–2003, and during that time he conceptualized the awards ceremony as a way to recognize industry leaders who achieved excellence in increasing consumer awareness of the fine jewelry category, thereby amplifying JIC’s mission to consistently raise the visibility and status of fine jewelry and watches.

JIC will also present GEM Awards for corporate communications, journalistic excellence, and jewelry style. The event will take place at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York. For more information, visit jewelers.org/JICgemawards.
