June is unequivocally the best month to be a jewelry editor, particularly one concerned with a wide variety of product.
This is the month the inbox really delivers. You’ve got moonstone and pearl—two superlative birthstones—and there’s Father’s Day, which (regardless of one’s feelings about the holiday) offers an ever-growing roster of interesting jewelry for all genders. Those would be enough to satisfy any jewelry appetite, but what makes the month truly special are the shows.
Depending on the year, the JCK and Couture shows in Las Vegas either kick off or wrap up in early June, and the email payoff is great before and after the events. Preshow, the teasers come hot and fast—plenty of previews to whet your whistle until it’s time to encounter the newest jewels in person at the shows. But you can’t possibly get to all of them unless you’re armed with the power to stop time or an army of clones, so the postshow waterfall of follow-up emails is the best. Here’s where the new creations and collections are revealed in all their high-res glory. If you were fortunate to see any of the pieces IRL, it’s a reminder of good times. If not, it’s like a grab bag of shiny surprises, each link leading to wonderful things.
Yes, June is a good month for my inbox. Here are some of my favorite jewels I’ve found there.
