Jewelry to Tie-Dye For

I’m very excited about the tie-dye trend. Not just for Deadheads, the explosion of color has been percolating for the past few seasons, and many fashion retailers are showing its huge impact on this summer’s sales.

Is there a happier style? Other than rainbow stripes, perhaps, I think not. Though tie-dye is available in a wide range of color combinations, I find myself partial to the rainbow varieties, particularly those pastel and neon-bright hues. I may or may not have gone overboard on an Etsy tie-dye T-shirt store recently.

I think if you’re going to wear something as colorfully loud as tie-dye—if you’re wearing it for fashion’s sake, at least—the only jewelry that will do to accessorize it should be equally as colorful.

The jewelry doesn’t need to be multicolor, necessarily (though that would really be a high dose of awesome brightness), but the more brilliant, the better. A really good opal is maybe the best tie-dye equivalent, but also look for juicy gemstone creations with stones such as tsavorite and multicolor sapphires, as well as bicolor and tricolor stones such as tourmaline and ametrine. Some stones even look like they’ve been tie-dyed themselves, like the jasper pictured at top.

Long after we’ve moved onto another fashion trend, whether that’s this summer or next, these pieces will endure, bringing colorful cheer for years to come.
