Three leading department stores—Saks, Neiman
Marcus, and Bon-Ton—all cited jewelry as a strong seller in June.
Neiman Marcus
cited precious jewelry as a leading seller at its specialty stores, along
with fine apparel, women’s shoes, designer handbags, beauty, and men’s.
Overall comparable revenues in Neiman’s specialty retail stores
segment increased 11.1 percent in June, the company said. Revenue growth trends
were the strongest in the Southeast, Northeast, and Texas, it added.
Saks Inc.
said its strongest categories in June included fine and fashion jewelry, as
well as women’s shoes and designer apparel, men’s clothing, sportswear, shoes,
and accessories. Overall comp store sales increased 11.9 percent for the month.
Bon-Ton Stores
said jewelry was among its best performing merchandise categories in June, as
well as home, ladies’ better sportswear, shoes, and cosmetics. Overall comp
sales for the month decreased 0.9 percent.
