The adjectives sharp and spiky conjure innumerable images: Barbed wire. Medieval daggers. Stiletto heels. Silver studs on a biker jacket.
The tough-luxe look has been going strong for a while now, with fine jewelry playing an important role in driving it home. Among many jewelry designers, the trend of late has taken the form of a spike motif meant to convey a certain edginess; its sister motif, the dagger (or vampire stake as the case may be) has also become dangerously, irresistibly chic.
Inverted triangle shapes have tribal appeal (and look shard-of-glass sharp when lavished with pavé diamonds) while pointy pyramids lend their form to everything from dainty stud earrings to the tips of a rose gold bangle bracelet.
Whether perfectly conical (like a thorn shot on a macro lens) or needle-fine (like cactus spines), the spiky designs below are a cut above. En garde!
