When young, high-profile celebrities and athletes started wearing jewelry that went beyond traditional gender norms, it was exciting—but I wondered how much of it might extend to the general public.

How comfortable would the average man be rocking a strand of pearls? Would we see more men dangling delicate earrings from their lobes anytime soon?

I think we’re a long way off from the everyday dad rocking a diamond manicure, but recent trends have signaled to men that it’s OK to play with outside-the-box fashion—and that means jewelry too.

So I’m very eager to get my husband a cool jewel for Father’s Day. He tends to maintain a pretty current sense of style, and he’s a very good sport when I bring home something different for him to wear. Then again…are you familiar with the film Forgetting Sarah Marshall? There’s a series of flashbacks that show the main character wearing gifts from his girlfriend—a hat, a men’s shoulder bag—he’s clearly skeptical, but he doesn’t complain. This is how my husband sees us, apparently. So, whether he actually wants to wear jewelry is another story, but I’ll be gifting him a piece nonetheless.

Here are some of the styles I’d love to gift my guy with—a very cool dad—and perhaps you and your customers might like styles like these for their Father’s Day gifts too.
