Jewelry at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards

Black diamonds, yellow gold, and minimalist designs dominated at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

TV viewers could at least ogle the jewelry if the onstage spat between host Miley Cyrus and “Anaconda” singer Nicki Minaj grew stale, or if Kanye West’s monologue (and 2020 presidential bid announcement) bored them to tears. Celebs, however, did wear some nifty numbers to the awards show that seems to keep losing steam.

Fun earrings of the mix-and-match variety and climbers and black diamonds had a major presence on some of the millennial attendees. Taylor Swift—whose “Bad Blood” mini-movie won Video of the Year—wore mismatched black diamond earrings (a climber and a stud) from Lorraine Schwartz, while model Cara Delevingne (part of the “Bad Blood” squad) sported black star studs from Dana Rebecca and a black diamond ear tattoo. Singer/UK X Factor judge Rita Ora wore several different pairs of diamond ear climbers also from Lorraine Schwartz.

Other looks included more black and some colorless diamonds, yellow gold, stacking rings, and minimalist-inspired styles. Britney Spears wore downward-pointing pyramid drops in yellow gold with diamonds from jewelry maker Established; model Lily Aldridge wore sleek and diamond-dusted Jennifer Meyer pieces; and FKA Twigs wore Eva Fehren styles. Hailee Steinfeld wore a wide gold choker from Jennifer Fisher, and the boho vibes radiating from Vanessa Hudgens included more than a dozen jewels from Jacquie Aiche, Le Vian, Pasquale Bruni, and Casa Reale. E! News correspondent Zuri Hall, meanwhile, bucked the edgy trends in Art Deco–inspired earrings from Leticia Linton, an opal and gold ring from Le Vian, and two Sethi Couture stacking rings.
