Joseph “Joe” Turco, president and co-owner of Turco Brothers Jewelers in Boston for over 30 years, died on Aug. 13, according to an online obituary. He was 90.

A native of Boston, Turco graduated from Medford High School in 1952 and served for two years in the U.S. Army. In the 1960s, he became co-owner of Turco Brothers Jewelers. The store, which is still running today, was founded by his father and uncle in 1932.

“He was always very handy and could build, install, or repair just about anything around the house,” according to his obit. “Joe’s son, as a child, was once asked what he wanted to be when he grew up and he replied, ‘I want to be like Dad—a jeweler during the week and a carpenter on the weekends.’”

In addition to jewelry, Turco was a big fan of jazz and classical music, and loved boating and cars.

Turco is survived by Paula, his wife of nearly 60 years; daughters Paul and Jana; son Joseph; two grandchildren; and two sisters.
