When Kara Ross started making sterling silver locket necklaces a couple of years ago, I fell for them right away. I loved the shield-like silhouette, the mother-of-pearl on its facade, and the fact that it opened and had enough room inside to hold a photo or a lock of hair or both! But in a recent conversation with New York City–based Ross, I learned that she was shelving their production in order to make karat gold ones. That’s a wonderful message for the market—the fact that pricier karat gold is trending over silver—but for me, the news was bittersweet, since the silver style better fits my budget. “Do you have any small silver ones left?” I asked her. “I’d like to buy one before they’re all gone.” Kind Ross is checking for me—fingers crossed this wish comes true.
