Wisteria Lane StyleJCK Style Newsletter — 2/2/2007

The ladies of Wisteria Lane share more than secrets on their ABC mega hit show Desperate Housewives. They also share the style savvy of costume supervisor Karo Vartanian, who JCKstyle caught up with during last week’s Centurion Jewelry show in Tucson, Ariz.

Vartanian revealed important wardrobe and jewelry styling secrets (“The look of each outfit is script driven,” he says) and what makes his job easy: well-developed characters with whom people identify.

Vartanian views lots of jewelry in order to pick the perfect accessories for each Housewife, and sometimes shops up to 12 hours a day. “I’ve been kicked out of a lot of malls because they’re closing and I’m the last person in there,” he told JCKstyle. Here, some specifics on how he dresses some of those famous suburban divas.

Bree, played by Marcia Cross: Bree is classic, beautiful … perfect in every way. All her skirts have the same hem, all her sweaters the same weave of cashmere. Her jewelry is very classic, like her perfect strand of pearls—we use Mikimoto.

Gabrielle, played by Eva Longoria: Gabrielle is a very flashy character, always overdressed. She’d have lots of diamonds and platinum.

Susan, played by Teri Hatcher: Susan is more organic. She’d wear smaller-scale chains, lariats, maybe small gold charms with diamonds or some crystals.
