Share

Game, set, match! If you get this newsletter in time to watch the US Open Men’s Singles Final, make time to watch—the luxury timepieces (and cameras) are sure to be flashing during the closing ceremony. (There has been a lot of jewelry action throughout this tournament in general!)

From there, you’ve got two of the biggest jewelry events of the year (in Carlsbad, Calif., and Bangkok), an exhibition in Paris, and a morning-coffee type of webinar to check out online.

This year’s edition of the major industry event known as AGS Conclave will be held in conjunction with the GIA Symposium, a research and educational event that GIA holds every five to seven years. The combined event, Converge, will take place on GIA’s campus in Carlsbad, Calif., and the nearby Omni La Costa resort. The gathering is characteristically packed with programming and networking events, including a panel featuring JCK’s own Rob Bates titled “The Biggest Issues Facing Jewelers Today: A Star-Studded Editorial Panel.” Discussion topics will include inflation, tariffs, diamond prices, sanctions, the lab-grown market, and more. Converge is open to qualified gem and jewelry industry professionals; register here.

“Beyond Shining Illusions” webinar: Sept. 9, 10 a.m. ET (online)

Titled “Beyond Shining Illusions: Reshaping Diamond Mining and Defending Community Rights in Times of Crisis,” this online panel discussion hosted by the Kimberley Process Civil Society Coalition (CSC) gathers relevant stakeholders from the KP CSC, competent authorities in diamond-producing and trading countries, the private sector, and consumers to share ideas about how to move forward. (For context, watch the documentary Diamonds: Beyond Shining Illusions in advance.) Register here.

72nd Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair: Sept. 9–13 (in person)

One of the industry’s most important international trade shows—for product and trend-spotting—is on this week. Well-timed for holiday inventory and custom jobs, suppliers and retailers will be on the hunt for stones, fresh faces, and more. Registration and info here.

Through Sept. 13, “Christie’s Paris will host a retrospective dedicated to Jean Dinh Van, the French jeweler whose sleek, sculptural designs helped usher in a new era of modern jewelry,” writes JCK contributor Annie Davidson Watson. “Marking 60 years since the founding of Dinh Van’s namesake house, the exhibition—titled ‘Dinh Van, 60 Years of Freedom and Creation’—brings together archival sketches, heritage pieces, and iconic creations that trace his influence on contemporary design.”
