How do we know the fall shopping season is ramping up? Because this week is bursting at the seams with buying shows, from the final day of a gem and mineral extravaganza in Denver to the big Hong Kong expo, a mecca for gem and pearl lovers. We also encourage jewelers to start applying for various grant opportunities this week—you know what they say about the early bird!

Hardrock Summit in Denver: through Sept. 15 (in person)

Today is the last day to catch the Hardrock Summit, a showcase for fine minerals, fossils, gemstones, and jewelry. With over 150 domestic and international exhibitors of high-end minerals and rare fossils, this event , at the Hotel Westin Westminster in Denver is the fall complement to the Tucson gem shows in February. If you’re in the Denver area, it’s not to be missed.

Jewellery & Gem World Hong Kong opens this week with its “one show, two venues” concept. From Sept. 16 to 20, AsiaWorld-Expo will host exhibitors selling loose diamonds, colored gemstones, pearls, and other precious materials. And from Sept. 18 to 22, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre will be filled with exhibitors that offer finished jewelry, packaging solutions, tools and equipment, and jewelry-related technologies. The show includes a robust education schedule.

Ethical Gem Fair in Oakland, Calif.: opens Sept. 21 (in person)

The Ethical Gem Suppliers collective is holding its first California fair next Saturday and Sunday at Altana Fine Jewelry in Oakland. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore a curated selection of responsibly sourced gemstones from a number of brands that belong to Ethical Gem Suppliers, including Agere Treasures, Capricorn Gems, Columbia Gem House, Nature’s Geometry, and Perpetuum Jewels. The event will feature a special WJA NorCal Chat & Chill social event on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m, designed to provide further insights into the ethical practices upheld by the collective’s members, paired with light refreshments.
