JCK news director Rob Bates recently made his ninth appearance on the Paul Zimnisky Diamond Analytics podcast. He addresses some of the feedback that his latest novel, Making a Killing in Diamonds, received. Paul discusses his own recent keynote presentation at the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre Lab-Grown Diamond Symposium. The two then share their views on De Beers’ new Desert Diamonds “beacon” and whether the marketing push will yield success.

Phillips’ Geneva Jewels Auction: Nov. 10, 9 a.m. ET (in person and online)

Phillips’ fifth Geneva Jewels auction opens at the Hotel President on Monday. In addition to a passel of rings set with spectacular gems—such as a 6.95 ct. fancy vivid purplish pink diamond, an 18.09 ct. Kashmir sapphire, and a 10.08 ct. very fine light pink brown diamond certified Type IIa, old-cut, and Golconda—the sale features 114 lots of rare jewels by Bulgari, Cartier, Chaumet. Schlumberger, Tiffany & Co., and Van Cleef & Arpels. And don’t miss the Geneva Jewels online auction, which closes Nov. 13.

Christie’s sale at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues in Geneva offers a curated selection of historic and modern jewelry from all periods, and from the most famous jewelry houses (think Harry Winston, Cartier, JAR, and Van Cleef & Arpels), but the undisputed highlight of the auction is the Mellon Blue. Estimated between $20 million and $30 million, the 9.51 ct. fancy vivid blue diamond, set in a serpentine diamond ring, belonged to American horticulturalist, philanthropist, and art collector Rachel Lambert “Bunny” Mellon (1910-2014).

The top lot of Sotheby’s High Jewelry sale is the Glowing Rose, a 10.08 ct. fancy vivid pink diamond. Additional highlights include an exuberant pair of sapphire, tsavorite garnet, and diamond earclips by JAR, a velvety 7.69 ct. “Royal Blue” Kashmir sapphire mounted on a ring/pendant combination by Van Cleef & Arpels, and an important pair of fancy vivid yellow diamond earrings, weighing 38.66 and 38.88 cts.

Jewellery, Gem & Technology in Dubai: Nov. 11–13 (in person)

Organized by the Italian Exhibition Group—which also runs the twice-yearly VicenzaOro show in Vicenza, Italy—the Jewellery, Gem & Technology Dubai (JGTD) show begins Tuesday at the exhibition center in Expo City.

Visit with a curated lineup of dealers of antique, vintage, and estate jewelry and timepieces—including Excalibur/ Beverly Hills Estate Jewelry, Matthew Bain, and Vock and Vintage—at the Coconut Grove Jewelry & Watch Show, opening Friday at the Hangar at Regatta Harbour in Miami’s historic Coconut Grove neighborhood.
