JCK Jewelry Agenda: Week of Jan. 10

Well, 2021, we were hoping you’d go easy on us.

Sigh.

To distract you from the deeply unsettling events of the past week, we’ve got details on a weeklong educational series focused on cutting-edge retail strategies, two brand-new podcasts from the Plumb Club, and a Sotheby’s sale that anyone besotted with The Crown will not want to miss.

ATTEND

PSFK’s Retail Innovation Week: Jan. 11–15 (Virtual)

The big thinkers at New York–based trend forecasting agency PSFK have coordinated five days of programming featuring business and marketing experts, researchers, and entrepreneurs addressing cutting-edge opportunities in retail, from redefining the digital experience to how physical spaces must evolve in the future. This is can’t-miss education, full stop.

Two new Plumb Club podcasts posted on the last day of 2020 promise to help enliven your business in 2021, including “Capitalizing on Branded Content to Drive Engagement,” in which Color Merchants’ Jordan Peck and Sara Strauss share tips on how to benefit from manufacturer-led initiatives, and “Creating Power Partnerships Between Retailers and Manufacturers,” led by Leo Schachter Diamonds’ Dov Tannenbaum, who offers strategies on how to make the most of your supplier relationships.

Heirlooms from Great Britain, Europe, and beyond—including tapestries, cabinets, porcelain plates, and jewels—are on offer this week at Sotheby’s online Royal & Noble sale. Pieces by Bulgari and Cartier are obvious standouts, but don’t miss the scores of dress studs, stick pins, and unsigned Victorian baubles available for bids as low as $150. (Alas, no crowns.)

You’ve still got a few days to enter the JCK Jewelers’ Choice Awards. The entry period for the industry’s premiere design competition closes Jan. 15. (Pictured at top: last year’s grand prize–winning piece, a peacock tanzanite necklace by Brecken Farnsworth/Parlé Jewelry Designs)
