Share

Between an important jewelry conference in the Windy City, a buying show in the Big Apple, a historic diamond exhibition on the outskirts of the City of Light, and a brand-building course on the internet, it’s a week marked by gem and jewelry intrigue. Fittingly, it concludes next weekend when JCK’s Victoria Gomelsky and Amy Elliott will convene in Dallas to judge the AGTA Spectrum & Cutting Edge Awards. May the best jewels win!

Known as the “Grand Condé,” the Pink Diamond is a historic gemstone weighing more than 9 carats, documented in the collections of the Princes of Condé since the 18th century. Stolen in October 1926, the jewel was recovered shortly afterward, hidden inside an apple. A century later, the Pink Diamond is once again on public display as part of a special exhibition at Musée Condé in the Château de Chantilly, located about 30 minutes north of Paris by train. To mark the occasion, the museum has partnered with L’École, School of Jewelry Arts, supported by Van Cleef & Arpels, on an extensive interdisciplinary research project—the first of its kind for a diamond of this caliber. Thanks to wide-ranging gemological and historical analyses, all of its secrets are now being revealed.
