Two jewelry conferences, continents apart, dominate this week’s agenda. One, in Singapore, is known as the “Diamond Davos,” while the other, in New York City, tackles resilience and responsibility in challenging times. If only we could clone ourselves and attend both!

Plumb Club Podcast (ongoing)

PC Podcast Building Trust Through Responsible SourcingThe Plumb Club’s July podcast is out. In “Building Trust Through Responsible Sourcing,” listeners will hear about what the latest consumer research data reveals about customers’ thoughts on ethical sourcing, fair trade labor, traceable origin, environmental footprints, and social responsibility. The Plumb Club will also explain how it’s working to make it easier for retailers to ensure their own supply chain is more responsible and transparent. The podcast also takes a look at the efforts of the Responsible Jewellery Council to set standards for an audited ethical supply chain from mine to market and what this means to a jewelry customer.

41st World Diamond Congress in Singapore: July 12–15 (in person)

The 41st World Diamond Congress (WDC), the diamond industry’s most significant global gathering, returns to Singapore this week, convening for the first time in the city-state since the landmark 24th edition in 1988. Held biennially by the World Federation of Diamond Bourses and the International Diamond Manufacturers Association, the event, which takes place at the ParkRoyal Marina Bay Singapore, brings together top leadership—from miners and manufacturers to traders and retailers—to address the evolving challenges of the trade. The WDC is aligned with the Singapore International Jewelry Expo, held concurrently at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre.

Initiatives in Art and Culture’s 16th annual Gold + Diamond Conference, themed “Resilience,” takes place at the Cosmopolitan Club in New York, starting tomorrow evening. The focus of the event is on how to define and achieve responsible practices while simultaneously preserving and celebrating artisanry and artistic vision. Panelists and speakers will ask: What does resilience mean in this moment? How do industry actors stay afloat while investing in resilience? From refineries to heritage houses, individual makers to miners—what are the strategic options available, and what actions and forward thinking are necessary to build resilience for an unpredictable future?
