JA New York: July 15–17

The summer edition of JA New York, held at the Javits Center in New York City, kicks off today and presents a great opportunity to see anyone you didn’t get to visit during the Las Vegas shows. Don’t miss “The Big Pitch,” held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. This live-audience event, started by the late Cindy Edelstein, will offer emerging designers the opportunity to pitch their lines to a panel of industry experts, including Amy Lane, fine jewelry buyer at Bergdorf Goodman; Jeff Badler, owner of Maurice Badler; Jim DeMattei, owner of ViewPoint; and yours truly.

Women’s Jewelry Association Awards for Excellence: July 16

On Monday, the Women’s Jewelry Association’s (WJA) annual Awards for Excellence gala will once again take place at Pier 60 on the Chelsea Piers in New York City. To mark the organization’s 35th anniversary, the WJA has streamlined the event to encompass four Visionary Awards that recognize individuals and organizations making a difference in the cause of women’s equality. This year’s recipients include Mercedes Abramo, president and CEO of Cartier North America; Caryl Capeci, president of Hearts On Fire; and Nadja Swarovski, the first female member of the executive board of Swarovski. The fourth Visionary Award will be given jointly to De Beers Group and U.N. Women.

American Gem Society’s Circle of Distinction: July 17

Stephen Lussier will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The American Gem Society’s annual Circle of Distinction dinner will be held at the Plaza hotel in New York City on Tuesday evening, where top honors will go to Signet Jewelers’ David Bouffard; the Diamond Council of America’s Terry Chandler; and Stephen Lussier, CEO of DeBeers’ Forevermark brand.
