Thomas J. Engibous will become chairman of J.C. Penney’s board of directors on Jan. 28, the company announced.
Engibous was named to the board in 1999. He takes over the chairman’s role from Myron E. (Mike) Ullman, III, J.C. Penney’s former CEO, who will step down as executive chairman.
Former Apple store head Ron Johnson remains the company’s CEO. Johnson was just cited as one of “Five People to Watch in 2012” by JCK.
Engibous is also the retired chairman of Texas Instruments, and served as TI’s president and CEO from 1996 through 2004.
