J.C. Penney’s Chief Information Officer Resigns

Therace Risch (pictured), executive vice president and chief information officer of J. C. Penney, will leave the department store chain on May 8, according to an 8-K the company filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday.

Risch has served as Penny’s chief information officer since 2015. In March 2018, she was appointed to the role of chief information and digital officer, though Karl Walsh took over the chief digital officer role in December.

The news comes as Reuters and USA Today have reported that Penney—saddled with a crushing debt load and forced to close its locations due to COVID-19—is considering filing for Chapter 11. The retailer is also exploring other options, including a possible restructuring, the reports said.
